My first facial

Getting my first facial was yet another one of those experiences where I question why I never tried it before! In my defense, and I’m probably not alone here, I didn’t realize there were benefits to facials besides an ultimate state of relaxation and refreshment. Recently I’ve been trying to take my skin more seriously and actually make a routine for my skincare since I’ve never had one before. I’m about to be real honest.. I’ve been treating my skin terrible for years. I’m trying to make up for that now.

When I say I used to treat my skin terrible I mean I would sleep in my makeup almost every night, a nightly skincare routine was absolutely non-existent. (I know, gross.) The most I would do was remove my makeup (usually the next morning) and put lotion on before applying makeup for the day. Luckily, I’ve always had really clear skin despite not doing anything to maintain it, in fact, I used to joke with my friends saying, “God knew I wouldn’t take care of my skin so he did for me,” they never found it real funny.

The skin is the largest organ in the human body and plays the role of the bodies first defense against infections — it is not narcissistic to take care of it!! Some obvious benefits of getting a facial include cleansing, moisturizing, and toning the skin, as well as blemish and breakout reductions. Additionally, what most don’t realize, facials involve a massage which aids in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. The facial massage relaxes the facial muscles which can slow the onset of wrinkles on the face and generate skin cell renewal naturally!

I was so excited when I scheduled my first facial at Massage Envy, I didn’t know what to expect but my esthetician, Ebony, made my first visit so comfortable! At Massage Envy, they’re all about personalizing their treatments for the client. For me, my skin tends to be more on the dry side so we were focusing a lot on moisturizing. Ebony took the time before and after my session to get to know my skin, answer any questions I had about skincare, and offer skincare tips to work into my morning and nightly routine. For someone that needed that quick education, I really appreciated that bit of information! This is something that is standard at Massage Envy, so you can expect the same pre and post skin-analysis from your Massage Envy esthetician.

I couldn’t even begin to keep track of the number of oils and lotions that was used during my 50 minute session, for the most part I was half-asleep (it’s so relaxing), but Ebony used a series of products by Murad to complete my facial along with giving me a hand, arm, facial, neck and décolleté massage. A lot of the the products felt cool to the touch on my face while others were more tingly but overall the experience was very comfortable. I felt fully pampered when my session ended and my face was glowing! Actually what came to mind were Ariana’s lyrics, “my smile is beamin’, my skin is gleamin’, the way it shine, I know you’ve seen it…” — no shame.

Getting my first facial at Massage Envy was a great experience, I especially loved how personalized the whole process was — I knew I wasn’t getting anything done to my skin that I didn’t need and nothing felt uncomfortable at any point. For a first-timer, Massage Envy offered a welcoming environment and provided a learning experience on how to care for my skin well after the treatment is over. I’ll definitely be back, and if you’re interested in trying out a facial as well, use my promo code that Massage Envy so graciously gave me for you guys, FACIAL20, for 20% off a facial at Massage Envy until the end of March. Ask for my girl Ebony if you’re a Wichita Falls local!

As always,

Ara
